How does the Veterans Preference Act apply?
Pursuant to the Veteran’s Preference Act, any applicant for the position of patrol officer who qualifies as a “Veteran” under this Act, who has served in active duty, and who provides a DD-214, shall receive an additional ten (10) points on top of their total score if that applicant had received passing scores in all parts of the examinations.

The Upper Dublin Township Police Department is charged with the protection of life and property within Upper Dublin Township. The Upper Dublin Township Police Department is a first-class, civil service, accredited law enforcement agency. Staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Department employs forty-one (41) full-time police officers.

General Qualifications for the position of Patrol Officer:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Be a U.S. Citizen.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Have a minimum of sixty (60) college credits or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university duly accredited by a nationally recognized accreditation organization, or have three (3) years of experience as a duly certified municipal, federal, or state police officer, or have served at least three (3) years of active duty in any branch of the United States Armed Services.
- Licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania before appointment.
Testing Process:
- Written Examination Passing Score: The minimum passing score on a written examination shall be seventy (70%) percent. An applicant must obtain a passing score on the written examination to be eligible to take an oral examination.
- Agility Examination (Physical Agility Test): The standards for completing the agility examination are listed online at www.mpoetc.state.pa.us using the 30th percentile. This is a pass/fail test.
- Oral Examination (Interview): The minimum passing score on an oral examination shall be seventy (70%) percent. Failure of an applicant to obtain seventy (70%) percent in the oral examination shall exclude that applicant from further processing.
